I have sat across the table from many believers who wanted to be generous. They meant it. They prayed about it. But something always held them back, and when we dug deeper, the real issue was never money. It was trust.

It means holding your possessions loosely because you believe the One who gave them can provide more. Generosity, the way Scripture frames it, is an act of theology. Every time you give, you make a statement about who God is.
In 2 Corinthians 9:7, Paul says God loves a cheerful giver. The Greek word translated “cheerful” is hilaros, which gives us the English word “hilarious.” God is looking for people who find real joy in giving, not people grinding through religious duty. That kind of joy only comes when you actually trust the Provider.

Give before you feel financially ready. If you wait until you have enough, you will wait your entire life. Scarcity thinking does not heal through accumulation. It only breaks when you act against it. Every time you give before you feel comfortable, you are telling your heart that God is more reliable than your account balance.
Tell no one. Matthew 6:3 says your left hand should not know what your right hand is doing. Privacy in giving is a real discipline. It strips away every motive except trust. If no one will ever know, will you still give? That answer reveals more about your faith than most sermons will.
Put generosity in your budget as a line item before anything else. Not unspiritual. Obedient. It is you, with your spreadsheet, telling God that His portion comes first. Pray before you give, even for one minute, and ask where He wants it directed. Over time, you will find God drawing your attention to needs before you go looking for them. That is what growing trust looks like from the inside.
